Welcome to St Petersburg Essential Guide - Your Best Travel Guide to Russia

Visas

Hi

I'm Luke for the UK. I'm planning on visiting St Petersburg in August 2017. I was wondering how much time between getting a visa and your actually trip to Russia should they're be? Can I get it now or nearer to the time.

Also, I will be travelling to Helsinki after my stay in St Petersburg, (it will probably be 3-4 days in St.P). Will it better for me to get a tourist or a transit visa?

Thanks very much for your help.

Kind Regards

Luke Smith

Little correction as in my last post I've made some grammar mistakes.

You cant apply for a transit visa if you are planning to take a train. You can only apply for a transit visa if you are staying at the airport, so you're transiting from one airport to another one.

You need a Russian Tourist Visa!
by: Davide

Hello Luke,

Thank you for posting your answer on the site.

This is Davide's writing.

Regarding to your trip to Russia, about the Visa you have plenty of time to arrange a visa. Usually to get a visa it takes 2-3 weeks if you have presented all the right documents to your nearest Russian Embassy. Therefore I would suggest to appky for your Russian visa at least one month before your trip to Russia.

Instead, regarding your trip to Helsinki from St. Petersburg I would suggest that you go with Allegro train. Learn more about travelling by train to/from Russia

If you are going to stay 3-4 days in St Petersburg you must apply for the tourist visa. Also, for your information you can apply for the transit visa if you are planning to take a train. Transit visa can only be requested if you are planning to stay at the airport.

Hope it helps!

Have a nice trip.
